Kate Rosie is an Artist who orginates from the N.E. Of England but is now living on the Hampshire/West Sussex border of Emsworth.  Captivated by the ever-changing light of the landscape Kate takes pleasure in highlighting not only a strong dramatic use of colour but also a more restrained approach.  Working primarily in acrylic and oils in a contemporary style with a wide range of subject matter, Kate has an enthusiasm for depicting texture through layering and scoring into the canvas.

Painting has always been a considered pastime, however, after the personal loss of my twin sister I decided to embark on a serious course of study.  After completing my Diploma in Art & Design and a B.A. (Hons) Fine Art I have continued to redefine and explore my paintings based on the ‘real’ and the ‘imagined’.

Early works in ink influenced primarily by Impressionism and Conceptualism, produced paintings in strong vibrant colour distinguished by their lively calligraphic line, using a pipette as a tool for mark making.  Current work in acrylic offers an opportunity to work in a much faster way with emphasis on the use of a palette knife and brush.  Essentially the freedom to reinvent work is ongoing, together with a fascination of colour line and form, in the transformation of present and future paintings.  

Such enthusiasm and a belief that instinct is the foundation of my art, together with the inspiration of the ‘everyday’ has contributed significantly in the myriad of influences surrounding my work.
